29 Nov 2016

There are no plans to develop a bus rank at Ledumang area, says Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso.
She said combi and taxi operators who have been using the open space within the locality as an informal dropoff/pickup point would be allowed to continue doing so.

The Member of Parliament for Gaborone North, Mr Haskins Nkaingwa  wanted the minister to state what was being done to address concerns raised by residents of Ledumang during the President’s walkabouts regarding the taxi rank.

She acknowledged President  Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama for his walkabouts which he made at Ledumang on June 11, 2016.

She said concerns were raised by residents of Ledumang during the walkabout of which considerations on issues surrounding the provision of a taxi rank were made, adding that it would be addressed through recommendations of the feasibility study for the implementation of  public transport system for greater Gaborone.

The feasibility study started on 24 July 2014 and was recently completed in October 2016,” she said.

She said the recommendations contained in the feasibility study report would be determinant of where future public transport infrastructure, including bus ranks would be located.

“This is because one of  the objectives of the study is to review public transport operations and recommend appropriate facilities and interventions that will support a more sustainable and efficient public transport system for greater Gaborone,” she said. ENDS
