Bears clip Eagles wings

Bears ladies team showed little mercy on new comers Eagles by beating the team 29-0 in a Botswana Fibre Network (BOFINet) softball league played on Sunday at the National Diamond.
Bears job was made easier by Eagles pitcher Thelma Motlhabi who committed a lot of mistakes, in the event giving the opponents something to brag about and they registered 14 runs in the first inning.
When it was their time to bat, Eagles failed to register a single run, and it was evident that lack of experience was their main enemy as most of their players failed to deal with simple balls on the day.
In the second inning, Bears picked where they left, recording 15 runs to put the game far from Eagles. However, if Eagles want to finish on a respectable position they will need to work extra harder in their decision making given that some of their outfield players were found wanting, not knowing what to do with the ball to eliminate Bears players.
In the second inning, Eagles continued with their sluggish performance and they did not record a single run and sensing that Bears were in a mission to clip their wings further they surrendered the game.
Their coach, Segaise Lastborn, said they were not prepared for the game because as a new re-grouped team their team was not solid as some of his players stay away from Gaborone making it difficult to train as a unit. He said their regular pitcher got injured last week and they had to give one of their players a huge task, hence she committed a lot of mistakes.
Lastborn said although he was not happy with the margin, he was expecting the results as they are in the development process. “You know the roots of development are bitter but the fruits are sweet, I am using young players, some of them have never played softball, but what I can tell you is that we will get there, that’s what happen, it is a development process,” he said.
Bears coach, Nnana Lebeko said she was happy with her player’s performance, adding that their game plan was to register more runs in the first inning.
She said although they easily won the game, what disappointed her was the fact that their opponents did not give them more competition.
Meanwhile, Bears men’s team picked where their ladies left by beating Eagles men’s team 27-0 still on Sunday, while UB Giants beat Stingers, 11 – 3.
On Saturday, Police IX won 5-3 against Gata, however Police IX found it difficult to deal with Wells as they lost 5-1. However, it was sweet revenge on the ladies side as Police IX beat Wells 5 – 4. ENDS
