Minister of Lands and Housing, Mr Lebonaamang Mokalake has hailed Karowe Diamond Mine for incorporating health and wellness into employees’ performance contracts saying it would ensure a healthy workforce.
Speaking at the mine’s wellness day at Mokoboxane, the minister commended the mine for sensitising Mokoboxane residents on health and wellness issues. Mr Mokalake advised residents to consider holding similar activities at potential tourism sites in order to promote them, citing places such as Ntwetwe pan and Mokgalo wa ga Khama at Kedia.
Mine representative, Mr Herbert Kebafetotse explained that they had incorporated health and wellness as an objective in their employees performance contracts. He said each employee performance contract would have a health and wellness objective that would be evaluated at the end of the performance contract.
Employees who performed exceptionally on the health and wellness objectives would be rewarded, Mr Kebafetotse said. He noted that the initiative would also increase productivity and minimise sick leaves.
Snap Fitness Centre instructor, Mr Lesole Phemelo encouraged the audience to exercise regularly to avoid accumulation of fat in their blood streams. He warned that accumulation of fat in their blood streams could lead to diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes. ENDS
