Green Lovers woes worsen
27 Nov 2016
Green Lovers on Saturday suffered yet another defeat from its host Jwaneng Galaxy.
The 2-0 loss was an addition to a series of losses that Lovers have suffered since the beginning of the season. The Jwaneng-side started the match on a high note and their efforts paid off in the 13th minute when Thabang Sesinyi hit the back of the net. They continued with more goal attempts but missed several chances.
Even though, they were not a strong side, the Serowe lads fought for an equaliser but they were met with strong resistance from the Galaxy defence. The game went to recess with the host on the lead.
From half time, Lovers improved their defence strategy and held their opponents at ransom for sometime. The substitution of Tsaone Mothoemang with Kesaobaka Ramotshwaedi did not change the tempo of the game because Tebogo Sosome managed to increase his team’s lead in the 77th minute.
Anthony Gouws got a real test in the dying minutes of the second half but despite his height, he managed to whisk the ball above the goal posts.
In a post-match interview, Galaxy coach, Mike Sithole said even though his team threw away potential goals, they managed to execute their plan of collecting the three points. He said they tried to change their game plan in the second half so that they could push for maximum goals even though it was difficult to plan for their opponents.
He however said he believed they were still on the right track and in good standing on the log even though they failed to collect more goals from the game. For his part, Lovers, coach Onthusitse Kootswele attributed his team’s loss to the mistakes they committed which led them to conceding two goals. He said his players looked mentally fatigued and failed to execute their game plan.
He also said even though they were using some young players due to several injuries they had, it was not an excuse to lose the game. BOPA
