This was revealed during the Barclays Banks Botswana, chief executive officer Ms Reinette van der Merwe’s visit to SPEDU recently.

The CEO of SPEDU, Dr Mokubung Mokubung indicated that the partnership between the two organisations would have a positive impact on the economy of the region especially during the time when BCL Mine, which was the main economic contributor in the region was under provisional liquidation. He mentioned that SPEDU had key areas tabled out to resuscitate and diversify the economy of the region. They are agriculture, tourism and manufacturing.

Ms Van der Merwe said the bank was proud to be associated with SPEDU.

She said the bank supported local business and finances viable projects that could contribute to the economy.

She indicated that some of the works Barclays Bank had done include training entrepreneurs to promote business ownership.

She said Barcalys Bank Botswana had been helping the local community in various ways.

She said the key areas of SPEDU were also also key to the bank’s strategy.

“Together we can support the economy in region and make sure that the developments planned for SPEDU region take off accordingly,” she said. BOPA
