BR Highlanders Tafic in top table clash

22 Nov 2016

The Debswana First Division North (FDN) league enters the eighth week this coming weekend with some mouthwatering clashes lined up and surely to shake up the log.

Log leaders, BR Highlanders, who appear to be buoyant in their approach to the league championship campaign are going to meet Tafic in a top of the table clash scheduled for Saturday at the old Francistown Stadium.

BR Highlanders are top of the table with 17 points from seven games, having won five and drew two, while Tafic are seated on position three with 16 points from an equal number of games, having won five, drawing one and losing one.

Tafic share the same points with another former top league campaigner, Motlakase Power Dynamos and the Francistown outfit seems set to cause havoc this season.

Using the old Francistown Stadium as their slaughter house, Matjimenyenga under the tutelage of Wrist Mmusi and Blessing Moyo have given Francistown football lovers hope for the new season.

After performing badly in the last season and Ecco City Greens being the talk of the town then, tables have now turned around as Mamoja Diski, as Ecco is affectionately called seems to be struggling this season while Tafic is having a smooth run.

The Texan Phiri-drilled Ecco boys seat on position five having won three games, drawing two and losing two, amongst the loses being one in the Ghetto derby against Tafic.Ecco will on Sunday meet fellow city rivals Tasc, which appears to be rolling all the way to the Francistown Region Second Division at the end of the season for relegation if they do not pull up their socks.

Tasc are bottom of the table with no win, one draw and six loses and have seen them part ways with Coach Boynyana Galeboe in an attempt to turn around their fortunes, albeit late.

For them to make a great comeback and move away from the bottom of the log where they are languishing with FC Satmos of Selibe Phikwe, they would have to pull off a miraculous escape in the remaining 15 games.

Satmos, who are in the second position from the bottom with four points from seven games, will be away in Sowatown to meet Sua Flamingoes, who are perched in position four with 11 points from seven games.

Both sides need to win the fixture to improve their lot in the highly competitive high stakes Debswana FDN, but only one can emerge the winner at the end of 90 minutes.

Major David Bright coached Morupule Wanderers will be home to Motlakase in an all Palapye affair, marking an infant derby of the two sides.

His charges are perched on position 10, an unenviable position for a man of his caliber and will meet an equally ambitious Motlakase, who also seek automatic promotion at the end of the season.

The other game on Sunday will see Great North Tigers (GNT) meet Real Movers of Phikwe at the dusty Tagala grounds in Gerald.

GNT have nine points from seven games and are seated in position seven while their opponents on the day are in position nine with eight points. All the games start at 1600 hours. BOPA
