Serowe hosts national Special Olympics

Children with special needs across the country will converge at Serowe College of Education for a week-long national Special Olympics competitions.

The event set for November 21-25, will give participants an opportunity to build their physical fitness as well as to encourage their integration in the community.

In an interview, spokesperson for basic education department-Central region, Marang Gobopang said the chairperson of Botswana National Sports Commission, Solly Reikiletseng was expected to officiate at the event.

A total of 563 participants were expected from six regions  that were set up by the special education unit.

The competitors are divided into four categories ranging from ages of eight-11, 12-15, 16-21 and 21 and above.

Principal education officer, for special education- Central region, said the competing codes include, football, indoor and outdoor volleyball, field and track events.

He encouraged the Serowe community to come in large numbers to support the athletes. BOPA
