Laff-A-Lot comedy crew were in full force at Cresta Bosele Hotel in Selebi Phikwe on May 1, unleashing jokes that left the audience teary with laughter.
The show which was hosted by Paphani ‘Paps’ Masalila was a blast and impressed many who attended.
Headlines for the show were Bafana ‘Ribcracker’ Letsatsi and Goodwill ‘Goodie’ Tlokwe who had most hit jokes.
Amongst them were Modiri ‘Mod’ Keseabetswe, Shiga ‘Stokie’ Senginga, Oetile ‘Mawee’ Mokgware and Shima ‘Jerusalema’ Nnanaakoko.
Goodie’s jokes which were mostly based on social responsibilities were quite interesting, entertaining and yet educative as it came out as an eye-opener on issues affecting people.
Ribcracker, whose face was made common to the public when he featured in this year’s Miss Botswana Pageant recently fired jokes on women and Mochudi were he hails from, which left many exhausted from laughing endlessly .
The host, commonly known as Masalila also known as Paps did not want to be left behind as he talked about escalating divorce cases, he even demonstrated how couples could revive their love performing along an old school hit song-Zombo Makarina.
In an interview, after the show, Paps said the purpose was to reach out to people and try to elevate stand-up comedy to mainstream level in the country’s entertainment industry.
He said the idea was also to show people that there is more to get entertained indoors than going out partying and drinking-sprees.
He said the Laff-A -Lot crew had already shot a DVD which was on sale and they were on plans to record another one which would be a definite rib cracker and high blow than the previous one.
“We believed that we had to take our strengths to greater heights and showcase mind blowing comedy events,” he said.
However Goodie expressed concern that stand –up comedy is still a growing phenomenon and not common among Botswana the entertainment industry in the country. He said this attributed to Palapye residents failing to turn up at Cresta Botsalo Hotel on Friday resulting in the event being cancelled.
Goodie also said they will be bringing fresh, lung-cracking jokes in their future comedy shows and encouraged people to attend such events as they proved to be a good tool for stress-relief and family bonds.
The crew had embarked on a three-town comedy show, which covered Palapye, Selebi Phikwe and Gaborone. ENDS
