The Asssistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Frans Van der Westhuizen, says he is aware of the unhealthy business environment at Kanye main shopping area near Southern District Council headquarters.

Mr Van der Westhuizen said the ministry, through the district council, started consultations with vendors in 2015 and an agreement was finally reached with vendors during the last meeting to move them to more suitable location.

He also said the Southern District Council had identified the existing Masekou market place for their relocation and the market area had running water and sanitary facilities.

Mr Van der Westhuizen was responding to a question in parliament asked by Member of Parliament for Kanye South, Mr Abram Kesupile who wanted to know if the assistant minister was aware of the unhealthy business environment of the Kanye main shopping area near the Southern District Council headquarters that crowded vendors in front and in between shops resulting in unending tension between vendors and the owners of large shops.
