Presidential gifts well managed

14 Nov 2016

Gifts received by the President and Vice President in their capacities as such from individuals or companies, be they personal or non-personal gifts, are recorded and kept at Office of the President.

This was explained by the Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration Mr Thato Kwerepe on November 10, in Parliament.

This was after the MP for Francistown South Mr Wynter Mmolotsi had sought explanation on how gifts that are given to the President and Vice President are monitored by the state to ensure that they do not influence them to take biased decisions towards individuals or companies that produced the gifts.

“I understand a gift, in contrast to a bribe, to be something the ownership of which is relinquished voluntarily without the expectation of payment or any favour from the person to whom it was given,” Mr Kwerepe said. BOPA
