The agricultural showground land in Ghanzi Township is owned by Botswana government and has not been allocated to any person, Assistant Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services, Mr Itumeleng Moipisi has said.
He said the land was zoned as a showground/bio park/conservation area according to Ghanzi Development Plan (2000-2023).
“According to Ghanzi Development Plan (2000-2023), the land is planned as a show ground, therefore, it is used for such purpose it was planned for,” he added.
The assistant minister said showground was already being used by the community of Ghanzi during agricultural shows and they benefit in various ways.
“Proceeds generated from activities related to agricultural show benefit the community,” he said.
Ghanzi North MP, Mr Noah Salakae had asked Mr Moipisi to state the names of owners of the Agricultural Showground at Ghanzi Township, the date it was allocated to the current owner and whether the owners were complying with the terms and conditions of its use.
Ghanzi North MP also wanted to know whether the assistant minister would consider giving it to the community of Ghanzi District to use it to fight poverty and unemployment. ENDS
