Budget constraints stall de-congestion plans

The Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Frans Van Der Westhuizen, is aware that the road between Francistown Airport and the new Francistown Stadium is prone to traffic congestion, especially during periods when there are football matches.
Answering a question in Parliament on Monday (November 7) from the MP for Francistown West Mr Ignatius Moswaane, he said this road formed part of the internal roads network in Francistown, which were earmarked for expansion into a dual carriage system.
The other roads included in the expansion programme, he said, were Marang Road, Kazungula Drive, Guy Street, New Bridge Road and Boipuso Road.
The minister further told the House that the design for expansion of these roads was completed in 2009.
However, he noted that due to budgetary constraints, the construction works were differed. Currently, there were no plans to construct the road since the project was differed.
MP Moswaane had asked the assistant minister if he was aware that the road between Francistown Airport and the new Francistown Stadium was prone to traffic congestion and when he would consider expanding the road that led to the places stated and when the project would commence. ENDS
