Missed chances baffle Santos coach

07 Nov 2016

Uniao Flamingo Santos coach, Stanley Mwaanga  was baffled by his team’s shyness in front of goals after their goalless draw with Sharps on Sunday (November 6).

Santos hit the blanks for the second time in a row and shared spoils with the high riding Sharps, despite dominating their encounter in Gabane.

In the four Debswana First Division South matches they have played so far, Ma-14, found the net on two occassions only, winning once and dropping points in three other matches.

The former premier league campaigners are languishing in the middle of the log with five points, falling behind early pace-setters Notwane and Sharps in the battle for promotion.

“I think our problem is composure in the box. We tried all systems (against Sharps) but at the end of the day our composure and finishing was not good. As you can see we were all over them but it is unfortunate we didn’t score goals,” Mwaanga said.

Santos did hit the target in the first half when Lebogang Jabari latched onto a loose ball inside the penalty area and fired a low shot past goalkeeper Richard Musheke but the goal was ruled out for offside.

Mwaanga’s men then wasted opportunities to win the match in the second half, with Dimpho Raphaka looping a header over the posts, while Thato Seagateng had an effort cleared off the goal-line.

Seagateng watched in frustration as his header from a cross by defender Kgotso Mothibamele hit the post with the Sharps goalkeeper beaten in the 70th-minute.

Modise Sifo wasted a late sitter, ballooning the ball over an empty net after Seagateng chested the ball down for him on the edge of the six-yards box.

“We did not react fast inside the box and also we didn’t pick the spot.

For the past six weeks we have trained how to score goals. Our training is attack oriented,” Mwaanga said.

Sharps maintained their unbeaten run with the draw and are second on the log with ten points.

They are separated by goal difference with log leaders Notwane who beat Lesirane 2-0 on Saturday.

Other first division south results: Mogoditshane Fighters 1-0 Skoon Boys, Letlapeng 1-1 Prisons XI, Black Peril 2-1 Mochudi Rovers. ENDS
