Westwood school hails Khama

Westwood International School in Gaborone has hailed President Lt. Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama and the Botswana Defence Force for their patronage and interventions in protecting rhinos in the country.
Addressing a group of Westwood International School students and staff at an anti-rhino poaching awareness campaign on Saturday, a conservationist, Ms Samantha Kannemeyer said the same could not be said for neighbouring countries where poaching was big business.
She said there was need to educate the public on the effects of poaching in efforts to help protect the highly endangered species, noting that rhinos had arguably become the continent’s most endangered species. She also regretted that poaching rate had exceeded that of birth despite all anti-poaching measures in place, hence the need to educate the public on dangers of poaching.
Meanwhile, it was reported that a record high of five rhinos were poached per day during the course of last week. ENDS
