06 Nov 2016

The National Development Plan (NDP) 10 failed to provide lessons for the next development plan.

Debating the draft NDP 11 in Parliament on Friday (November 4), the MP for Francistown South, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi said NDP 10 failed to deliver the expected number of jobs, hence high levels of unemployment.

He further said it failed to improve the quality of education since it had not developed entrepreneurs.

Mr Mmolotsi said NDP 10 also failed to ensure skills acquired were relevant to the industry.

He further said it failed to provide Batswana with decent housing and there has been an inequitable distribution of developments where some areas such as Central District were more developed than other parts of

the country.
The Francistown South MP further said people do not have access to portable water and the quality of health is low.

For his part, Specially Elected MP Mephato Reatile said BCL Mine faced closure, but investors who through improvement in technology could make it profitable were welcomed. He said there was no point in setting up an elector refinery when Botswana only had two copper/nickel mines. ENDS
