Accommodation shortage affects wildlife national parks staff
06 Nov 2016
The Minister of Environment, Nutural Resources Conservation and Tourism, Mr Tshekedi Khama says shortage of accommodation affected the Department of Wildlife and National Parks staff.
Mr Khama said this when responding to a parliamentary question in which the Member of Parliament for Boteti East, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe wanted the minister to appraise them on status of the Department of Wildlife and National Park’s office in Letlhakane.
“The Department of Wildlife and National Parks in Boteti Sub District has a staff complement of 15 officers. This staff is augmented by Tirelo Sechaba particpants as well as personnel employed on temporary basis,” he said.
Khama said it was true that there were instances where exhibits in the form of government trophies and animal hides were kept in the same office whilst in transit to storerooms in either Rakops or Serowe, adding that the arrangement was not convenient and the ministry has resolved to have found alternative storage facilities within a period of a month so that the situation could be rectified.
“The current arrangement has potential to pose a health hazard to the officers.” he said.
With regard to when the office will be built on the land allocated to them, he said a plot has not yet been developed due to lack of funds. ENDS
