MPs debate draft NDP 11
03 Nov 2016
MP for Tlokweng, Ms Same Bathobakae, has appealed to government to address land shortage in Tlokweng.
Debating the draft National Development Plan (NDP) 11 in Parliament on Wednesday, she said Batlokwa land that had been acquired for residential purposes rendered them poor because they could no longer plough.
Ms Bathobakae said food security was a far-fetched dream under the prevailing circumstances in Tlokweng where fertile fields were taken from Batlokwa for residential purposes.
She further questioned the rationale for employment creation under NDP 11, which she argued did not state clearly how employment would be created.
MP for Nata-Gweta, Mr Polson Majaga appealed to government to undertake developments that added value to the economy.
He argued that investment in tourism was limited, whereas the industry had potential to improve the economy and create more jobs.
Mr Majaga further said government should loosen-up laws regarding work and residential permits in order to lure investors into the country.
For his part, MP for Tati West, Mr Biggie Butale called for mindset change in order for Botswana to become a high income economy.
He said young people should be bold, adventurers if Botswana was to realise the dream to diversify the economy away from mineral resources.
He also urged Batswana to support each other with regards to entrepreneurship by buying local products. ENDS
