One teacher for Home Economics

01 Nov 2016

The Assistant Minister of Basic Education, Mr Moiseraele Goya has acknowledged that his ministry is  aware that there is only one teacher for Home Economics at Kgosi Mpe junior secondary school and that her load is 36 periods.

Responding to a question from Member of Parliament (MP) for Jwaneng-Mabusane, Mr Shawn Nthaile in parliament, Mr Goya explained that his ministry has guidelines for teacher’s workloads and 36 periods is not in any way excessive.

Mr Goya pointed out that one must also consider that Home Economics classes are normally not full classes of learners.

He however mentioned that his ministry engages temporary teachers as and when necessary.

Jwaneng-Mabusane MP Ntlhaile had asked the minister if he was aware that Kgosi Mpe Junior Secondary School in Jwaneng operates with one Home Economics teacher with a workload of 36 periods instead of 34.

MP Ntlhaile had wanted to know the impact of the arrangement as well as what action would be taken to address the problem.ENDS
