Minister of Employment, Labour, Productivity and Skills Development, Mr Tshenolo Mabeo has told Parliament that Construction Industry Trust Fund (CITF) Mobile Training Unit in Nata was set up in 2007 so specifically offer skills needed during construction of the Nata Senior Secondary School.
He said MTU was subsequently closed in 2009 and not 2013.
He further said CITF mobile units were set up specifically to provide semi-skilled and skilled artisans on-site or close to site for mega government building and construction projects around the country.
Mr Mabeo said Nata MTU operated at almost the same time as Shakawe MTU (2007-2010), Palapye MTU (2008-2012), Francistown MTU (2009-2010) and Mahalapye MTU (2009 -2019).
He said the MTUs were all closed after completion of the major building projects which they were set up to facilitate.
Mr Mabeo said currently Kazungula MTU which started in 2013 is the only one still in operation facilitating development projects in the Chobe District. Mr Mabeo further said Nata MTU plot is the property of CITF and it is currently leased to a private company.
He was responding to Nata Gweta MP, who had asked the minister who Nata Construction Industry Trust Fund (CITF) was closed in 2013 when others are still operational and when this institution will be resuscitated from being a white elephant. ENDS
