The stage is set for the 2016 Motorsport Summer Spin fiesta billed for this weekend Nov 5 in Mmopane.
The event is held under the auspices of Botswana Motorsport Association (BMS) and a closely- knitted competitive action is anticipated between ‘King Joe’ and ‘Sheriff ’judging by their points accumulated.
“The Summer Spin Fiesta, otherwise known as the BMS Round 6 Championship, is the last event of the Botswana Motorsport Association calendar year. It is action packed and will also feature spinners from South Africa,” said the event organiser of Spin & Speed motorsport club, Odireleng Mmolai as gave an insight about the championship.
He said the 2016 championship will incorporate two elements of the sport, being competition and entertainment.
He also explained that upcoming Batswana women spinners will also get a chance to learn from visiting women spinners saying this was deliberate decision taken by the association to encourage women participation in motorsport.
He noted that over the years, motorsport has been labeled as a gangsters’ game but with the new developments, the sport was receiving positive reception and becoming more professional.
According to Mmolai, motorsport in Botswana has grown in leaps and bounds especially in reinforcing security matters. He affirmed that all contestants are licensed and all the vehicles will undergo thorough check-up before the competition.
“The clerk of course will check all vehicles to see if they can perform a “kill switch” and any motor vehicle that doesn’t pass the test will not compete” Mmolai elaborated.
He urged petrol heads or spectators to desist from invading the spin circuit even if they are hyped by the action because safety comes first. ENDS
