Bakgopeng JSS celebrates excellence

Bakgopeng JSS in Lesenepole/Matolwane village celebrated excellence after the school attained position one in the 2012 junior certificate examinations in the Palapye sub-region.
The school performance ranged from 80-87 per cent for the past five years and scooped first position for three consecutive years and was awarded a floating trophy.
Speaking during the victory celebration recently, central region director, Ms Molebi Morolong said the 87 per cent performance of the school did not come easily but explained that it was through hard work.
She said the school functioned as an organisation and as such everybody who worked at the school including the involvement of the community played a significant role in the performance. She appealed to members of the community and other stakeholders to adopt the school and form partnerships that would result in high performance.
Furthermore, Ms Morolong urged parents to work with teachers and find ways to help students improve their marks as well as their attitude towards education. He said teachers alone could not achieve good results.
In addition Ms Morolong said maintenance of schools was on-going and urged students to desist from vandalising school property. The school head, Ms Kealeba Gaborekwe said the school worked hard for the past three year years to attain good results and had shown commitment in competition events.
In 2010, the Maths and Science Fair team was crowned the national champions and the same year the Social Studies debate team scooped position one in the central region. Furthermore, in 2011 the school received a certificate of appreciation as the most improved school in Palapye sub-region.
In 2012 the school also scooped position three in highest value addition in Tonota during the central region excellence awards recently. Five members of staff were recognised for good performance during the same occasion.
Ms Gaborekwe however said her school was faced with challenges despite the good performance, citing lack of accommodation for teachers as one. She said some teachers were accommodated in VDC houses and council houses under Lesenepole Primary School.
In addition she said some parents did not come to school for consultation with the school concerning performance of their children. ENDS
