BotswanaPost are the 2016 champions of the Southern Africa Postal Operators Association (SAPOA) games.

Botswana, Lesotho and Namibia, participated in the games and the sporting codes were athletics, Netball, Volleyball and football.

Last year BotswanaPost watched helplessly as Swaziland won the trophy, but this year the local lads came with guns blazing and made their intentions clear by snatching the trophy from the Swazis after accumulating  more points  especially in athletics.

In the women’s category, in 100 metres Masego Sebuso and Boikobo Kgoleyamotho won silver and bronze for Botswana respectively, in 200 metres Sebuso continued to hoist Botswana’s flag  high when he won a gold again.

BotswanaPost confirmed the belief that Botswana rules the 400 metres  as Matshidiso Tamari and Stella Mokibelo won gold and Bronze for the country, while 5000m Matshediso Tamari and Boyang Mofahothe also bagged silver and bronze respectively.

The local lads continued to rule the track when they won gold in 4x100, and 4x400 in both the ladies and men’s category.

In the men’s category flat race in 100 metres Tebogo Mosese and Tshabang Thonisani scooped silver and bronze medal, whereas Tshenolo Makakeng won gold in 400 metres to make sure that Botswana continued to rule in athletics in the region.

In Ball games Lesotho beat Botswana 3-1 in women category finals, Lesotho continued with the dominance over Botswana in volleyball when they beat the local lads 3-2 in the men’s category, to win two gold medals while Botswana settled for silver.

Namibia won gold medal in netball after beating Botswana 23-18, whereas in football Botswana went away with a gold medal after walloping Namibia 2-0 in a final game.

SAPOA games started nine years ago with the aim  to foster a spirit of togetherness among  the staff of the various postal operators in the region, as well as encourage staff participation and wellness.  Meanwhile the next edition will be hosted by Zimbabwe. ENDS
