Lesirane holds Prisons XI

Prisons XI wasted second half scoring chances and was held to a goalless draw by Lesirane City in the Debswana First Division South match on Saturday afternoon. The two teams’ respective unbeaten starts to the season remained intact after the stalemate at Lesirane ground. Prisons are on four points after opening their campaign with victory over Uniao Flamingo Santos last week while Lesirane have drawn their two matches. Lesirane was more enterprising in the first half and nearly opened the scoring in the 26the-minute after Thato Tumagole located an unmarked Keabetswe Sebika with a lovely pass inside the penalty area, but the winger headed over the posts.
Left-back Kagiso Ramokgathadi forced a smart save from Prisons goalkeeper Bakang Methole with a well taken free-kick, and Methole kept Prisons on level terms with a point blank save from Gabriel Ketshotseng soon afterwards. Prisons threatened for the first time in the 42nd minute after Emmanuel Ditodi exchanged passes with Kabo Majuta who fired narrowly wide. The Warders’ coach Bushy Basitang introduced former junior international Mollen Mabe for Taelo Nthomiwa and Selofela Ketlhoilwe for Ditodi and the two substitutes reignited the visitors in the second half. Mabe fired inches wide in the 60th minute from a Ketlhoilwe delivery, who then fluffed a sitter from Omphile Lenyatso’s low pass inside the box.
The Lesirane defence, marshaled by captain Simon Lokwalo and Keobokile Enosa, managed to weather intense pressure from the Warders and held on for a draw. “We missed chances and ended up drawing the game, but that is how football is. We will go back and correct our mistakes and focus on winning the next match,” Prisons manager Kgosietsile Loeto said in a post-match interview. Loeto downplayed thoughts of promotion saying the season was still new: “We are not interested on whether we are going to be promoted or not. This time we are not interested on winning the league. We are interested in playing our third game and winning it.” Prisons are in their fourth consecutive season in the second tier after their relegation from the Premier League in 2013. Black Peril defeated Mogoditshane Fighters 1-0 in Tlokweng while Skoon Boys held Letlapeng to a 1-1 draw in Charleshill in other matches played on Saturday. ENDS
