Public kiosks decongest registries
31 May 2013
The public has been urged to use the Administration of Justice's public kiosk, which facilitates quick and easy access to information on cases.
Chief Justice Maruping Dibotelo said the public kiosk device was operational in Francistown, Gaborone and Lobatse high courts to decongest the registries in line with “access to justice for all by 2016”.
Officially opening the Court Record Management System (CRMS) conference in Mahalapye on May 30, Chief Justice Maruping said the kiosk pulled case related information from the CRMS system, which was accessible to the international community.
He said the Botswana judiciary was one of the best performing judiciaries worldwide, “some of the success is attributed to Judicial Case Management and other reforms we have put in place to speed up the case disposal rate”.
Chief Justice Dibotelo said users should contribute to enhance the system usage and also urged them to be vigilant with what they put into the system to safeguard the departments’ integrity. He said stakeholders were invited to deliberate on ways in which they could assist in their mandates within the criminal and civil justice system.
He also stated that the justice systems and operations overlapped and thus required finding better ways of information sharing and dissemination.
The conference, themed: Stakeholders Participation: Key to CRMS Success was convened to afford CRMS users an opportunity to share their experiences on the CRMS applications with a view of enhancing system usage. ENDS
