Losing a lucrative job is a challenge that can leave one miserable and hopeless, wondering where the next meal will come from.
For Ms Oratile Berman the ordeal was a lesson that brought her closer to God and she opened a Christian book shop to celebrate the strength that God gave her during hard times.
Situated in a small corner at Jwaneng bus rank, Ms Berman is surrounded by neatly packed Christian motivational books, journals, Bibles, cups, bags,key holders and other gifts, all printed inspirational verses from the Bible.
The verses are diverse to suit the emotions, from celebratory to comforting and encouraging messages as per customers’ needs.
The 33-year old has her customers to thank for driving her business which is only 10 months old. She said she worked tirelessly to market the business which is the first of its kind in Jwaneng.
She has made the community aware that they can pop in and buy Christian motivational gifts.
Ms Berman said the shop simply depicts and preaches the gospel in a more fun and inspirational way. She indicated that she orders all her stock from outside which also include South African and American gospel. She has already created employment by hiring one lady to assist her in the shop.
“This shop depicts my life as a Christian and I am happy because it is easy to sell what you live for,” she said.
Though she is currently looking for a suitable place of operation, she operates in a more reasonable place in terms of rent and convenience to the customers. She acknowledged the Jwaneng Town Council for the support noting that, they always invite her to any fair and open markets in the town.
“I have passion for business and that has pushed me to make a proposal to the Gender Affairs department to ask for funding, “she explained.
Ms Berman has a dream to see herself buying unprinted gifts and printing it for herself. Armed with a certificate in Information Technology which also included graphic designing,she is confident that she can be able to do designing and printing for herself. ENDS
