YDF beneficial to youth businesses
17 Oct 2016
Many youth businesses around the country could not have been as successful as they are had it not been for the Youth Development Fund offered by the government. The same can be said by a welding business under the ownership of one Mr Mohemedi Batshetsang.
A welding business founded and started on minimal equipment in 2006 and being operated from home, Mr Batshetsang said, receiving funding in 2013 to the tune of P94 000 through the Youth Development Fund programme which he used to purchase additional welding material, equipment and sought out a place to operate the business was a watershed moment for his business.
He also said it is something he will forever remain grateful for.
He urged the youth to take such government initiatives seriously and utilise them as they are meant to rescue them from abject poverty.
The 36 year old artisan said he remains profoundly in his uncle’s debt who when he was still young planted a welding seed on him and it has grown to become a tree whose fruits he is currently enjoying.
He said had it not been for his uncle, he probably would not have even known how to weld and unemployment prompted him to open such a business as he did not go further in school.
The father of one also said his thriving business has helped him put food on the table and is his only source of income as he has never been employed by anyone in his life.
Mr Batshetsang said he offers his welding services to virtually everyone and has often times done some work in schools and government institutions.
He said he currently has only one employee but looks to create more employment for more youth as time goes on. ENDS
