Lack of market hinders project sustainability
17 Oct 2016
Poverty eradication beneficiaries in Kgalagadi North have decried lack of market for their products.
When giving testimony during the Presidential inspectorate task team visit in Lokgwabe recently, one of the backyard garden beneficiaries Ms Sereena Molatole highlighted that the emergence of government funded poverty eradication projects is an indication of the country’s economic growth therefore they should be fully nurtured at all time to guarantee their sustainability.
Her backyard garden, she said stood the test of time since its establishment in 2014 despite shortage of water and unbearable weather conditions in Kgalagadi, but attributed its downfall in 2015 to lack of market and high water bills.
Ms Molatole therefore pleaded with the business community and individuals alike to support government funded small scale entrepreneur’s projects in order to ensure their sustainability.
In his comments, a member of the Presidential inspectorate task team, Mr Peter Siele highlighted the importance for poverty eradication beneficiaries to identify the projects that best suit their market demands.
He said beneficiaries at times enroll in a project before conducting a comprehensive market research, something which he said hinders the success of the project.
He said government has over the years invested a lot on uplifting the livelihoods of its citizenry by coming up with projects all geared towards improving the locals therefore is upon the beneficiaries to fully utilise those projects and establish sustainable markets for their products.
Mr Siele said government is progressing meaningfully in eradicating abject poverty in the country through comprehensive social protection programmes in place such as destitution programme, poverty eradication programme, LIMID all which enable people to live food secure and dignified lives. ENDS
