Basketball league continues without sponsor

13 Oct 2016

Botswana Basketball Association (BBA) league secretary, Peter Ubakar says the association is still hunting for sponsor for their league which kicked-off last month.

The league has been running every season without a sponsor for many years. Ubakar explained in an interview on Wednesday (October 12) that the association submitted proposals for sponsorship of the league to a number of companies but has not received concrete responses regarding those proposals.

“We have received some promises, but there is nothing concrete concerning our proposals. There is nothing official but we will continue negotiating,” Ubakar said.

The lack of a sponsor has however not discouraged BBA from commencing the new league season last month. The league is expected to conclude in December with the national championships.

Defending champions, Dolphins, are already setting pace at the top of the men's division one with seven points from four matches. Relics are following closely behind on second position while last season's finalists, Troopers, are in fourth place.

Dolphins will have a chance to consolidate their lead on Saturday (October 15), when they clash with Notwane Spartans at the University of Botswana. The match will kick-off at 8pm. Another division one match this will be between Flames and Troopers in Francistown on Saturday.

Division two bottom teams UB Relics B and Drillers will play against each other on Friday at 6pm, log leaders Botho University (BU) Saints face Jwaneng Bullets on Saturday at 4pm, while the last weekend division two match will be between Police V and Warriors on Sunday at 3pm. All matches will be held at UB.

Still at UB, women's log leaders Dolphins will meet BDF V on Friday (October 14) at 8pm, Police V take on Ravens on Saturday (October 15) at 6pm, while Relics welcome Dream Team on Sunday (October 16) at 5pm.
