Poverty eradication bakery projects in Jamataka have been singled out as among some of the successful projects that have improved the lives of beneficiaries.

Updating the Presidential inspectorate task team led by Ms Mmapula Modise on Monday (October 10) in Jamataka, the Village Development Committee chairperson Mr Nomazo Dlamini said out of the six, five are supplying bread at the junior secondary school on rotational basis.

And apart from the school tender, they also sell in the village adding that though the market is limited within the village, nevertheless they can still make sales which they manage to sustain themselves and keep the business running.

He however appealed to the committee that measures should be emplaced to have government departments and other institutions to always consider engaging poverty eradication or local suppliers whenever there are events within their areas instead of them coming with their suppliers from other places.

This, he said will also give business to the beneficiaries and uplift them.

He further highlighted that the sixth project could have also been part of the group that supply the school, it is only that the beneficiary submitted her documents late when the closing date has passed.

He nonetheless raised that though their beneficiaries are making business at the school, the concern however is late payment which they have to wait and make follow up which comes with costs as the school is located in Chadibe about 20 kilometres away.

Briefing on the success of her business, Ms Ditshebo Kelelelo of Jamataka said she was assessed and given the project package last year.

And since then the business has been ticking well to the extent that she managed to build a one room house which she uses as her business office, managed to build a toilet as well as opening a bank account which to date has over P4 000 in savings.

In addition, Ms Kelelelo said during her period supplying the school, she can earn about P3 800. And these returns she makes from the business has helped her to engage two temporary employees as well as one on part time and she manages to pay them well on time even if she has not yet received her dues from those that have engaged her.

So far, she said because she has managed to secure herself a business plot, she aims to build herself a family house before she can start developing the business plot.

Acknowledging the success of the businesses, the inspectorate team leader Ms Modise said such business should be an example to other beneficiaries that it is possible to succeed if one is dedicated to make it.

She cited that if Ms Kelelelo was not determined to succeed at the time she was not supplying the school she could be crying foul instead but instead decided to searching for other market in the village.

She therefore encouraged other beneficiaries to seek advice from those who are successful. ENDS
