Regional manager of Servest, Mr Bradley Hall says his company aims to develop local chefs and equip them with necessary skills.
Mr Hall said recently during Servest Chefs of Excellence 2016 competition held in Orapa that the intention was to up-skill local chefs and use that as a skills transfer.
He noted that as a company, they wanted to develop local people and broaden the programme by investing money locally.
Mr Hall also noted that training outside had also become expensive, hence the need to train locally.
He indicated that they had a newly established training kitchen in Jwaneng which would be used to train local chefs.
Mr Bradley said they had been operating for five years and had sent three chefs to France, two to United States and four to South Africa.
One of the judges, McJones Mosenene said they looked at various aspects of cooking, such as taste, texture, food display, food variety and looked at whether the menu complemented the flavour.
Mr Mosenene said they also looked at how each stall was organised, adding that each stall was expected to add at least one feature that represented Botswana.
The judges, he said scored what they saw and scoring from the public was used to make a final decision.
He said they had already registered Chefs and Caterers Association of Botswana and all the contestants qualified as members automatically.
The competition was won by Maun team scooping P4 000 cash and a voucher worth of P4 000 each of them.
Maun team led by Omphitlhetse Mosigi said winning the competition had instilled a sense of motivation on them and also demonstrated that they had good knowledge and skills with regard to catering.
The sponsors of the competition were Security Technology Group, Servest Botswana and Senn Foods. Ends
