Innovation key to success

The Duke of York, Prince Andrew has encouraged women to take up careers in the fields of science and engineering.
Speaking at Francistown College of Technical and Vocational Education (FCTVE) on Thursday at the STEM4GIRLS exhibition, Prince Andrew said entrepreneurs are the growth and job creators of the future and emphasised that any initiative that encourages entrepreneurship should be supported.
The Duke of York also recognised the importance of innovation in creating new enterprises.
Prince Andrew explained that engineering can be in businesses, researches adding that anybody can be an engineer despite cultural and tradition stereotypes.
The Duke of York hoped that initiatives like STEM4GIRLS will harness the huge potential of young people of the region to develop their skills, encourage innovation and identify new opportunities to contribute to Botswana’s future generation.
In an interview, the deputy British high commissioner Mr Oliver Richard said the United Kingdom (UK) and Botswana enjoy and share special history and have common aspirations.
He stated the purpose of the visit was to represent the UK at Botswana’s 50th anniversary celebrations and also appreciate partnership with UK.
Mr Richard said the modern relationship between the UK and Botswana has many other dimensions such as education and financial services.
Prince Andrew had an opportunity to also visit the Botswana Meat Commission and attend a reception hosted by the deputy high commissioner and Francistown major Ms Sylvia Muzila at Marang Gardens. Ends
