Rollers ladies team to get support

28 Sep 2016

For a very long time Township Rollers women’s team has been neglected as their male counterparts enjoy the benefits of being associated with the blue brand.

However, the ladies’ team days of suffering may be over as the club’s financier Jagdish Shah has promised to give the team more attention and support this season.

Shah, who is Rollers’ president, said assistance, could have come earlier last year, but financial difficulties forbade the idea, adding that this year the team would look better.

“This year we have assigned one of our committee members mainly to look at the affairs of our ladies team. Since we are starting I asked them to come up with a minimum requirement for now, and they have given me a figure that can sustain the team, and I think that can be managed,” he said.

Shah said Township Rollers had good sponsorships this year amounting to P 2.5 million from different sponsors.

Furthermore, he said he was confident that this season they would do better in gate takings particularly from the men’s team and merchandise given that their support base was growing.

“We have hired a football ground in Tlokweng so the ladies team will also have access to such groud, but we will take baby steps with the ladies team until we reach there. We did that with the men’s team. Currently we haven’t found a sponsor for the ladies team, but we will improvise with what we have to help them,” he promised.

Rollers ladies team coach, Gaolethoo Nkutwisang said she was happy that the team management had finally found it sensible to support them.

She said as a team, they had been eagerly waited for the announcement, adding that with more support the ladies team could do more and dominate the Women Super League.

Nkutwisang further said Rollers ladies team was a good brand that every parent would like their children to play for and that, with more support coming their way, her team would be unstoppable, next season.

“Honestly, the assistance from the management is going to motivate my players, and now that we will be training at the same ground with the men’s team, this will give my girls more confidence,” she said. BOPA
