The Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) in Maun has donated four boxes of clothing to Thuso Rehabilitation Centre (TRC) to be distributed to people with disabilities at the centre.
Speaking at the handover event on May 24, DPP senior prosecution counsel, Mr Universe Kabecha explained that it was their first time to donate and give back to the community, especially to people living with disabilities.
Mr Kabecha explained that the donation was intended to, among others , raise awareness about their services to people with disabilities, come closer to them and share what they have with them.
He noted that people with disabilities were human beings just like any other person, adding that by donating clothes to them they showed compassion and gave them dignity.
“About twenty beneficiaries of all ages, children, men and women will benefit from the donation,” he revealed.
Individual employees donated clothes, such as t-shirts, trousers, shirts and many other women clothing.
He also noted that as employees of the DPP, they were not only concerned with persecuting people who violate the law, but were also part of the community that drives the Vision 2016 pillars of a compassionate, just and caring nation.
One of the beneficiaries, Ms Gaoletlhong Kangere thanked DPP employees for their gesture, adding that the employees showed that they were aware of their plight as people living with disabilities.
“We are all in need here and your donation is a welcome development to us especially that it is winter time,” she said.
For his part, TRC deputy director, Mr Dickson Samaemo expressed gratitude for the gesture and implored DPP to continue the good work.
He encouraged them to visit some of their sites around the country where they would have the opportunity to meet different people with disabilities and appreciate their challenges.
The deputy director also mentioned that the situation of people living with disabilities in the country was a concern because of diseases and car accidents. ENDS
