25 Sep 2016
Tati town police traffic officers together with the church fraternity and Mathangwane community on Friday came together to pray for the A3 Francistown/Nata road.
Speaking at the service, Kgosi Batisani Moeti of Mathangwane said this year the road turned out to be deadly as many fatal accidents occurred on A3.
And as one of main national roads in Botswana which adds revenue to the country’s coffers, it prompted them as the leadership together with the community and church fraternity to join hands with the police to sensitise and put prayer for the holy spirit to prevail and prevent accidents.
Kgosi Moeti added that the road is in a bad state however they called unto all road users to be vigilant of the situation and drive cautiously at all times considering that the road is used by heavy vehicles and l there is livestock roaming in the road.
He cautioned that being negligent is not going to be helpful and as such being alerted of the state of the road as well as other road users will be the temporary useful remedy to prevent accidents.
Briefing on accidents that occurred since the beginning of the year, Inspector Oagile Masokwane of traffic division said to date 11 people have lost their lives along A3 while many have suffered severe injuries which has left some paralysed.
These, he called for behavioural change by all road users noting that everybody should take the responsibility to be considerate of other road users.
He pointed out that the road was in a bad state however road users should make way of making use of the present situation while waiting for funds to be available and the road to be refurbished.
Inspector Masokwane added that they have as traffic officers realised that some drivers do not want to observe the minimum and maximum speed limits and these are some major factors which result in fatal accidents.
He therefore appealed to the community, leadership and the church to help them spread road safety awareness messages particularly during this period of holidays and urged them to encourage their families and relatives to drive safely at all times and help them safe lives on roads. ENDS
