Accommodation shortage worries Tsogwane
25 Sep 2016
Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Slumber Tsogwane has informed residents of Mokubilo that shortage of accommodation is a critical concern country-wide.
Mr Tsogwane, also the Member of Parliament for Boteti West said this during a kgotla meeting addressed by President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama on Thursday September 22.
Government, he said was trying to address the situation by allocating each village few houses every financial year, adding that their situation would be addressed when funds permit.
Minister Tsogwane said that the ministry was still trying to establish how the issue of termites destroying houses could be dealt with and undertake maintenance at the primary school.
For his part, Minister of Minerals Energy and Water Resources (MEWR), Mr Kitso Mokaila said Mokubilo, Mosu and Mmea were supplied water from one borehole at Nthane.
Mr Mokaila said the three villages were supplied through one water line, and if there was a breakdown at a certain point it would affect all the villages.
He said they surveyed a second borehole at Nthane, which was connected to a power line and found out that water there was saline and needed to be purified.
He noted that they then connected another borehole to purify Mosu borehole, which has a high yield that could supply Mosu village adequately, and that borehole, he said needed a power line.
Since Nthane borehole already had a power line, he said the intention was to get the transformer in Nthane to Mosu to supply water in the village.
Mr Mokaila noted that if there could be two boreholes in the village, water supply could be enhanced, since another borehole could supply the village if another one breaks down. Currently, the villages are supplied interchangeably, adding that their water tanks were too small, saying they were on the plan to address the situation once funds are availed.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Health Ms Dorcas Makgato stated that Mosu, Mokubilo and Mopipi health posts had been earmarked to be upgraded.
However, Ms Makgato cited that the plan was to prioritise upgrading of Letlhakane Primary Hospital, which has 22 beds.
She stated that an arrangement had been made with Orapa Mine hospital to admit patients from Letlhakane Primary Hospital to avoid congestion .
The ministers were responding to concerns raised by Kgosi Botshabelo Dijeng of Mokubilo. ENDS
