22 Sep 2016
Minister of Health, Ms Dorcas Makgato yesterday (September 22) applauded the team that comprised Digawana clinic staff and Village Health Committee (VHC) members for touching lives outside their normal call of duty.
Ms Makgato said during a handover of a two and half roomed house donation in Digawana. The house was donated by the team.
She said caring for the less privileged members of the community was a show of true self actualisation as a nation and the only hope of becoming a United and Proud nation.
“I’m very proud of you, your job is to make me feel good and look good. It is through gestures like these, that we can indeed build a happy, united and caring nation,” she said.
The minister said she was particularly touched by the fact that although the initial beneficiary to-be had passed on before the project rounded off, the initiators did not hesitate in their resolve to complete and transfer it to a relative.
The minister further singled out the project builder Mr Seteng Senosi for selflessly volunteering his services to construct the structure.
“I’m very happy for you my brother, may God abundantly bless you,” she said.
Ms Makgato also Member of Parliament for Sefhare-Ramokgonami constituency shared that in total, her ministry has so far delivered 12 houses across the nation through the same partnerships in Francistown, Good Hope, Letlhakane and Tutume among others. She stressed that it was important for officers to engage in community service initiatives and touch more other lives of Batswana.
Area MP and Assistant Minister of Health, Dr Alfred Madigele for his part thanked project initiators and stakeholders for complementing government efforts to restore the dignity of the less privileged Batswana through the provision of decent housing. He also thanked Ms Makgato for taking time off her busy schedule to witness the event.
Kgosi Kefitlhile Kgwakgwe also commended the team for going an extra mile to change the lives of other Batswana.
He said the gesture was inspired by the Presidential Housing Appeal initiative.
When giving the project overview earlier, Ms Margaret Nkgelepang said they initially wanted to build the late Ms Kedibonye Kgosietsile a toilet, but after assessment they realised she rather needed a decent house more than the former.
She said they raised funds, dug into their own pockets and asked for donations from individuals and the business community to put up the structure.
She explained that when Ms Kedibonye died in 2015, they did not waiver, but decided to finish off the house and transfer it to a relative Mr Shimane Kgosietsile. Ms Nkgelepang also thanked Digawana clinic staff for the spirit of patriotism.
A sister to the late Ms Kedibonye, Ms Mmaosadi Kgosietsile, thanked the team for the project but wished her sibling had lived long enough to see it actualise. Ends
