Jwaneng profiling on cards

21 Sep 2016

Documenting the history of the town which has the country's richest mine is a move that deserves to be showered with praises.

Jwaneng town mayor, Mr Tsietsi  Kwenje said the town woud be profiled as a way of branding and selling the town to the international market.
He said the council has outsourced the production of the booklet to a local youth run company to the tune of P48 160.

“The project entails producing a booklet similar to the well-known Best of Botswana magazine which will include, but not limited to the background and socio-economic status of the town and the magazine will be placed in hotels,” he explained.

Mr Kwenje said a task team that has been appointed would consult and research, and he pleaded with the community to assist them to gather as much information as possible.

He said the Jwaneng Town Council website would in the near future be revamped to cover such areas as in the profile booklet. “It will also be linked to the Jwaneng mine website, e-government portal and other relevant websites.

“The revamping will give the website a new look and information that would market the town locally and internationally in order to attract potential investors,” he added.

He said in their endeavour to improve service delivery and get feedback from clients, the town council would soon introduce a phone-in initiative to the mayor's office.

Mr  Kwenje said the programme, which is similar to the one that was introduced for cabinet ministers by President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama, would go a long way in assisting the council to bridge the gap between employees and their clients.

He said customers would be allocated a certain amount of hours in a week to call the mayor and give feedback.

He encouraged civil servants to work hard and deliver the best services to avoid a situation where clients would call in masses to complain about poor service delivery.

Mr  Kwenje also highlighted that the programme was a platform for good governance, adding that once the programme starts, the public would be informed.
He said the programme would also assist in creating a platform for improving the public service. Ends
