Etiquette opens opportunities

21 Sep 2016

Director of national service and internship, Ms Tshenolo Omphitlhetse has encouraged interns to maintain a good work ethic and conduct.

Speaking during the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture orientation for interns, Ms Omphitlhetse said in order for interns to win the hearts of employers in their host organisations, they should conduct themselves in a manner appropriate for the workplace.

She encouraged them to refrain from bad behaviour and focus on gaining skills at their respective workplaces adding that portraying good behaviour at work could help them get employment later after finishing their term as interns.

She implored them to perform for their customer because they were the ones who could either make or break themselves.

“Etiquette is important. Abide by the rules and regulations given by your supervisors because it will help you grow in your job and open opportunities for you to learn,” she said.

“Internship is all about skill transfer and gaining experience. You might be coming with a degree in human resources or accounting but, without practical experience, this platform gives you a comparative advantage over other job seekers because of the two year experience you gain whilst doing your internship,” Ms Omphitlhetse said.

Furthermore, Ms Omphitlhetse said they had in their previous meetings with host organisations encouraged them to deploy interns accordingly to ensure they did which they had studied  and pleaded with interns to also ensure they were rightly placed. Ends
