Coloured Stars women’s football team thrashed Reteng Banyana women’s football team 10-0 to qualify for the Francistown BOT50 Independence Cup finals.

The encounter, which took place on September 18, at the Francistown Old Stadium, was part of the on-going football tournament (women category) towards the finals to be played at the Francistown Sports Complex as part of Independence celebrations on September 30.

From the first whistle Stars started attacking aggressively and hardly seven minutes into the first half the team utilised a golden opportunity by netting the first goal through Mercy Olwetswe.

Olwetswe proceeded to score a brace five minutes after her first goal which fired up her team so much that it tore apart the scrappy Banyana from Francistown’s Gerald Estates.

Stars from Coloured location managed to increase their score count by two more goals through Khumo Segogotho and Tsamodimo Moarabea respectively to lead Stars 4-0 at half time.

In the second half, there was nothing to write home about in terms of Banyana as they failed to change their poor play while their opponents continued where they left off.

They were determined to win as every player appeared to want to find the back of the net with the opponents failing to deal with their frequent attacks.

Stars continued to visit their opponent goal posts and their efforts yielded them results as they managed to score six more goals before the regular 90 minutes through  Kelerogile Thebeetsile, Opelo Kebaritse, Boitumelo Moesi, Goitseone Gabatsholane, with Khumo Segogotho and Tsamodimo Moarabea hitting the net once again to make the final score 10-0.

Although Banyana appeared helpless and without the slightest sign to score, they managed to have a penalty just four minutes before the end of the encounter but, as fate would have it, Tshegofatso Tafa failed to convert.

The losing team, Banyana will play against DD Jays in the loser’s final on September 24, while Stars will play against Francistown United during the finals on independence day. Ends
