Director of World Group of Companies, Mr Samuel Mpuchane, has urged the private sector to explore opportunities in order to create more jobs.
Speaking at the national business conference in Francistown on Tuesday (September 13), Mr Mpuchane said the private sector had responsibility to help sustain the country’s economy growth.
He encouraged the sector to benchmark aganist other countries in doing and starting good business.
Furthermore, he said when managers were taught a growth mindset, they were more willing to coach employees and the quality of their developmental coaching became higher.
Officially closing the three-day biennial conference, Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Mr Vincent Seretse said government acknowledged the key future of economic growth and prosperity, which lied in the competitiveness of their enterprises driven by a vibrant private sector.
Mr Seretse assured the private sector that government would address challenges facing the industry.
The minister said the adopted resolutions should be implemented accordingly.
He said they had noted the concern that the 2014 resolutions had not been resolved.
He said the theme of the conference: Botswana at 50: Celebrating Success and Strengthening the Public Private Sector Partnership for Sustainable Prosperity, was not chosen by mistake as the conference had highlighted Botswana`s humble beginnings at independence in 1966 to a middle income status.
Mr Seretse said while they had done relatively well in the last 50 years, they needed to do better as it seemed they had slowed down.
He thanked the business community in Francistown and the surrounding areas, parastatal organisations and various ministries and departments for their commitment and active participation. ENDS
