Kutlwano ladies keep momentum

13 Sep 2016

Kutlwano ladies secured two comfortable victories over the weekend to sustain their lead at the top of the Mascom Volleyball League.
The defending champions thumped rookies Selebi Phikwe Volleyball Club (SPVC) 3-0 in Lobatse on Saturday (September 10) and followed that up with a routine straight sets victory over floundering BDF VI at BUAN on Sunday. The ‘Big House’ currently leads the log standings with 53 points from 19 matches while second placed Mafolofolo has 49 points from 17 matches.
Kutlwano overcame an inconsistent start to the match and brushed the army girls 25-18 in the first set.
The team’s experienced player Masego Hosea showed glimpses of her best form with good strikes that troubled BDF VI defence. Her combination with Tracy Chaba and Daisy Golekanye was strong for BDF VI.
BDF VI was undone by poor reception in the second set as Kutlwano won 25-17. Patricia Moribame, Lorato Chizake and Tebo Kgannyeng were simply not up to the task, forcing coach Lee Tshipana to frequently call for technical time out in an attempt to guide his team.
Realising that his team was about to wrap up a simple victory, Kutlwano coach Dopp Popo pulled out Chaba and Hosea and brought In Caroline Roger and youngsters Tshiamo Chakalisa and Merapelo Tshimologo.
The fringe players gave a good account and settled victory with a 25-15 win in the third set.
Popo said afterwards that he was happy with the way his team performed.
“This is the performance that I want to see from my team every weekend looking at the fact that what they are doing now is good. We are playing very well and even the young players that we have introduced into the team have not disappointed,” Popo said.
He said his team could retain its title if it continued with the good performances.
“We can go on and win the title again if we can maintain the level of our play and if we can continue training the way we are doing at the moment. The positive thing about Masego Hosea is that she has been training regularly for the past few weeks. During the first round I was using her in defence and service, but now we can deploy her on attack as well because she has been training well,” the Kutlwano boss said. In other weekend matches, Mafolofolo claimed 3-0 victories over Kalavango and SPVC. Dynamites piled misery on SPVC by beating the bottom club 3-0, while BDF VI defeated Spiking Stars 3-0. ENDS
