Finance department impresses Mbulawa

North West District Council (NWDC) chairman, Mr Reaboka Mbulawa, has applauded the council’s department of finance for prudent finance management and doing books on time.
Addressing a recent full council meeting, he said the council had gone past the deficit era. He said while waiting for a clear confirmation after an audit, it would be wise to give the department a pat on the back for a job well done.
He assured the Okavango Sub-district that the promised service centre would be constructed.
“I have already engaged with the district administrative leadership who agreed that the service centre works have to resume immediately. I have to stress that the necessary procedures have to be followed including engaging the head office and tapping off the general fund as procedures to achieve this intention,” he added.
Mr Mbulawa said a tender was already awarded and explained that there was need to carry on board such proceedings and harmonise the deal as mutually beneficial exercise.
He called upon committees to engage at a professional level to achieve their dream. In addition the council chairman challenged the revenue generation committee to seek ways in which they would capitalise on generating council revenue.
He said they had another project, the horse track stadium plot which needs to be developed and make it possible to host the Mascom Derby next year.
He also noted that the district had to bring back the Ngamiland Trade Fair and own it as the council baby on behalf of the community adding that it is his wish that the trade fair is hosted at said stadium and pioneered once more by the council.
Mr Mbulawa said all the projects should be spearheaded by the finance committee noting that it is cleared that they are having mileage into their road map.
He pleaded with councillors to join hands and ensure they achieve their goals noting that the implementation is solely on each and every one within the council fraternity. “We need to win this establishment and realize that it is not a one man show”.
He challenged all to individually rate themselves and note how much effort they have invested in the council road map.
On other issues, the house were informed about the preparations for the golden jubilee and urged to participated fully and be very visible. They were also asked to encourage their electorates to attend the important celebration where the nation would be celebrating 50 years of good governance and having transformed from one of the poorest African countries to a middle income one.
Mr Mbulawa noted that the country has great achievements to showcase adding that although, growth always come with new challenges and demands.
The council chairman also raised expressed worry that after the introduction of subsidized stock feeds, a lot of salt bags were procured which were not for the intended purpose but instead used for illegal fishing.
To arrest the situation, he informed to house that the relevant organization had put some measures in place as a farmer is now allowed to buy only 50 bags of salt a week. ENDS
