MYSC celebrates fitness day

The Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture (MYSC) on Friday (September 9) celebrated the annual national fitness day in Gaborone under the theme, Fitness Towards 50.
Speaking in an interview, principal public relations officer at MYSC, Thobo Tlhasana said the ministry has decided to align this year’s fitness day with the country’s 50 years jubilee.
In addition, he said they had also invited those Batswana born in 1966 born for a fitness exercise given the significance of their birthday.
“This year we decided to name this day, Bots50 national fitness carnival in line with the fact that this very month, Botswana will celebrate 50 years of independence,” he said.
Tlhasana said they also incorporated issues of investment as they go hand in hand with wellness. He noted that during the previous wellness day, people were sensitised about the importance of investing, hence it was held under the theme, Health Investment Drive.
He further said MYSC was satisfied with how the national fitness day had turned out this far. Since inception, he said it had shown growth even though at first, people did not understand its purpose. “People have shown great interest in the fitness drill that are held every month, and we intend to carry on beyond this year,” he said.
One of those who attended, 50-year-old, Naledi Thamage expressed delight for being part of the national fitness day. She said it showed how government valued people born in 1966.
She also said it afforded her the chance to exercise adding that it was also an eye opener. ENDS
