Maele explains plot allocation delay
11 Sep 2016
Minister of Lands and Housing, Mr Prince Maele has said that land demand in Motshegaletau has compelled his ministry to abandon the initial land layout, thus causing delay in land allocation in that area.
Speaking at a kgotla meeting addressed by President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama recently, Mr Maele explained that they abandoned the initial layout that only catered for 141 plots.
Consequently, he said they opted to start a new land layout that would satisfy the land demand in that village.
Mr Maele who acknowledged that the last land allotment at Motshegaletau was in 2015, stated that plot allocation waiting list at that village stood at 833.
Mr Maele told the residents that his ministry together with the physical planning department from the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development were about to complete the process of that new land layout.
Once completed, he said land authority would start land allotment.
Mr Maele was responding to the Village Development Committee chairperson of Motshegaletau, Mr Iphemele Basupi who complained that land allocation in their village had been stopped despite the high demands.
The situation, he said frustrated residents to the extent that they resorted to occupying unassigned plots of land.
President Khama donated 50 blankets to the old and poor people, 30 chairs to the kgotla and 10 Bibles to be shared among church leaders. ENDS
