Lands ministry launches TV programme

08 Sep 2016

The Ministry of Lands and Housing has launched a television programme named Lefatshe Letlotlo..

Minister of Lands and Housing, Mr Prince Maele, said the programme would be aired on Botswana Television every Tuesday at 6:05p.m beginning September 13.

“This day marks another milestone for my ministry, this time around on public awareness and education. It is a fulfilment of one of our values of transparency. For quite some time, inadequate public awareness has led to some of our customers being cheated by crooks and fraudsters in land related matters,” he said.

He said a few years ago, his ministry took a decision to intensify information dissemination to members of the public.

“This has hitherto been provided through our radio program called Lefatshe Boswa.  It is our hope that through this tv programme, we will further enhance information dissemination,” he stated.

Mr Maele also said his ministry was undergoing a lot of transformation through initiatives that would ultimately benefit Batswana, adding that they believed the television production would help them keep in touch with customers.

“We shall engage ordinary Batswana, stakeholders, the business people, investors, media and indeed everybody to share their views on how we can improve on delivering service to the public.  We are on a quest for continuous improvement which we hope will translate to economic benefit for Batswana,” he said.

Minister Maele said was a  treasure that must be well managed for the benefit of the economy.

“A good land management practice promotes social harmony and limits incidences of war and famine.  As we celebrate 50 years of independence, we are indeed happy, united and proud. Our land, our Botswana is indeed a happy nation, it is a united nation.

Let us treasure it and secure it so that we can celebrate another 50 years proud of our land,” he said.

Permanent secretary in the lands ministry, Mr Thato Raphaka said there were many land issues that needed to be tackled.

He made an assurance that there was an abundance of content therefore it was unlikely that the programme could run out of content.

“Four years ago when we thought of having a television programme, our challenge was that, with the influx of programs on Btv, will the slots be available, thankfully we managed,” he said.

He said the critical issue was deciding on the content of the programme, adding that they were aware that they had been unable to reach other Batswana through their radio programme, but were adamant that this time they shall manage, as television had become a basic necessity for most households.
