Ngurungu looks to sports tourism

07 Sep 2016

Sankoyo Bush Bucks have partnered with Sankoyo Tshwaragano Management Trust in an effort to hunt for technical sponsorship.

This followed expiry of their one year sponsorship with YOLI Sports Wear Company that offered P75 000.

The two partners introduced a new business model that aimed at encouraging and promoting sport tourism.

The teams’ communication and marketing manager, Phemelo Saleshando told a press conference that their partnership intended to generate funds for both the trust and the team through promotion of domestic tourism and sport tourism.

He said they believed that a joint campaign would bear positive results and benefit both the trust and the team.

He said the joint drive meant that the trust would not only do their day to day activities but would also generate funds for the team.

Saleshando said since the football club originated from Sankoyo, they intended to take registered members to visit the concession at a subsidized price to appreciate the roots of the team.

He said some people had a perception that that it was expensive to traverse the Okavango Delta and with their model, they wanted to unlock doors at reasonable prices for supporters and the general public to explore the beauty of the delta.

The initiative, he added, would bring hope and inspire the club, the people of Ngamiland and the public at large. Saleshando said they were working on modalities of their partnership to ensure that expected results were produced.

On the issue of securing the main sponsor, he said they had approached a number of companies but noted that some potential companies had no interest in channeling their funds towards football but preferred sport codes like rugby.

However, Saleshando called the business community to join hands in the development and growth of sports tourism.

“Ngurungu is one team which has a high wage bill ranging from P30 000 to P37 000 for a single away game.” ENDS
