Organisers of the Kanye Marathon have donated P10 000 to Kanye Seventh Day Advantest Hospital (KSDA) and stationery to primary schools in Kanye. 

The marathon dubbed ‘I Run My Roots’ was held on Sunday to ignite Ga-Ngwaketse as jubilee celebrations euphoria builds-up.

Handing over the cheque, the Minister of Agriculture, Patrick Ralotsia said the event also encouraged healthy lifestyle, unity within the community as well as attracting tourists to the beautiful landscape of the village.

Ralotsia who is also Member of Parliament for Kanye North promised to contribute P10 000 for the race next year.

He urged the community to rally behind the organising committee to ensure success of the event expressing optimism that the event would be bigger and better in the years to come.

The starting point was at Mongala Mall in Kanye and the marathon was subdivided into three routes and categories of 5 km fun run, 10 km and 21 km.

Chairperson of the organising committee Oscar Gobusamang said the marathon started last year as a charity event through the brainchild of Kanye youth who seek to uplift the livelihood of the community.

Gobusamang said in an interview that it was a social event that has created a platform for networking.

Welcoming the participants, deputy Kanye Administrative Authority Thamiso Chabalala applauded the organisers and encouraged them to keep up the good spirit. 

He said through the marathon, they have put Kanye on the map.

He said his council would start working hand in hand with the organisers and promised that his fellow councillors would also join.

The 21km run under the men’s category was won by William Hurt, seconded by Thapelo Maboane while Johannes Westle came third. The 10km race still under the men’s category was won by Gagoitsepe Morekwa followed by Phemo Sedio and Clifford Lekopapye.

The 10km race under the women’s category was won by Clara Dohcyby while Serena Liu and Sophio Kersshaw came second and third respectively. Ends
