Nine fitness health instructors graduated from the first ever fitness academy in Botswana, the Fitness Health and Wellness Academy Botswana.
The academy hosted a six-hour aerobathon at the launch with graduates instructing a huge audience of fitness and health participants for the first time.
When officially launching the academy in Gaborone, the founder of the academy and master trainer, Thokozani Gwai explained that the academy seek to close down the gap in the industry which present a shortage of Batswana instructors.
Currently, he noted that foreigners were dominating the industry as fitness instructors, hence he found it fit to start an academy that would recruit and train local instructors.
He explained that previously, people had to cross borders in order to receive such training courses; hence the services were so expensive.
Thus, he said he saw the gap to groom instructors locally.
“Most of the instructors in Botswana are my protégés, but previously we had to cross to countries like South Africa to train,” he said.
Furthermore, Gwai mentioned that of the nine who were graduating, one had successfully completed personal training course and the rest for aerobics.
He is of the view that creating such environment helps in many ways, saying he does not only create jobs, but helps in many ways to avail means of keeping fit.
He said some of his students had formed their clubs, which were successful, while some work in those schools as instructors.
Further, he said his dream was to see a healthy nation by engaging them with training and appreciated that Batswana were responding well to the way of constantly training.
One of the graduates, Nyemudzani Mogorosi,  a 50-year-old instructor , expressed her delight on her achievement.
She said it did not come easy as she faced a lot of challenges during her training, but all came to good as she managed to successfully complete her training.
She explained that she started as a participant, however later on had interest to train as an instructor.
She also said she went through all the levels needed to pass in order to be an  instructor.
She however, expressed her worry with the participation of women.
She encouraged women to come forth since they were equally capable as their male instructors.
She also stated that now people do not have to spend a lot of money travelling to other countries to seek such training, as it was now available in Botswana. ENDS
