Motloutse club to host cycling competition

01 Sep 2016

Motloutse Cycling Club will host the second annual Motloutse Cycle Tour on October 9.

Chairperson of Motloutse, Motsile Sibanda, said the success of this event would depend on stakeholders support.

Sibanda said any contributions would go a long way in supporting the growth of cycling as a sporting code in Selebi Phikwe and Botswana as a whole.

He said contributors towards the event were welcome and they would benefit by branding their organisational products and services for free during the cycling event.

He sad this year, the event would attract a great number of cyclists as well as cyclists from some SADC countries such as South Africa and Zimbabwe.

Sibanda pointed out that the race will follow a scenic route in the Bobirwa area and offers sport tourism opportunities in the greater Selebi Phikwe area, commonly known as SPEDU region.

He said the same route as last year will be used starting at Sefhophe village located some 20km out of Selebi Phikwe, down through to Bobonong via Tsetsejwe village and back to Sefhophe to the finish line again.

The race, he said, caters for all cyclists who can choose to compete in either the 160km race which is the main race, 100km, 60km and the 30km fun-ride. As part of the club’s standing dedication to develop cyclists at grassroots level, the race will offer a 10km kiddies category again this year.

Sibanda concluded by stating that since the event comes a week after the national celebrations of 50 years of Botswana’s independence, the race has adopted the theme: ‘50 years of Sport Development in Botswana’. ENDS
