Maun water project to address challenges
30 Aug 2016
Maun phase II water supply and sanitation project, which is expected to address the acute water challenge affecting the village, will cost over P60 million.
Addressing Maun Administration Authority councillors, MAA chairman, Mr Gaokgakala Letswee said the project was awarded to AF Sandilands contractor in July and the project was expected to last eight months.
Mr Letswee said the Maun water situation had improved following flowing of the Tlhamalakane River in July.
However, he said some areas such as Boseja, Sedie, and Boronyane were still faced with water shortage due to inadequate water supply management.
The current Maun water supply, he said, faced a challenge of poor network which did not allow water rationing.
Mr Letswee, therefore, said the phase II project would allow construction of a pipeline from Kubung to Wenela Treatment Plant Booster station to ensure reliability in the Maun wards supplied by the Wenela Plant.
“The project also intends to correct the existing network and storage tanks, such that zoning is possible,” he said.
Furthermore, he said the project would also address challenges of sanitation infrastructure.
Mr Letswee said the Department of Water Affairs was engaged in an exercise to validate the status and yields of additional boreholes before installation, he therefore said the tender for the test pumping contractor and the work is expected in November. ENDS
